Why you should replace spark plugs regularly
 
Spark plugs are one of the engine components that generally deteriorate gradually. In contrast to, for example, a torn valve, a defective connecting rod or crankshaft bearing, piston seizure and the like, which are noticeable as soon as they occur and may bring the engine to an immediate standstill, you are rarely stranded on the side of the road because of a sooted spark plug. With every mile, the electrodes of the plugs wear down further and contribute to an engine losing power, running more uncleanly and an increasing fuel consumption. This is a continuous process that takes place slowly and is therefore often overlooked. Spark plugs should therefore be replaced regularly, ideally at the same time as the inspection intervals.
